Pennypack on the Delaware - In 1996, the Fairmount Park Commission embarked on a project to take a 65-acre undeveloped portion of Pennypack Park between the Delaware River and the Philadelphia Prisons in northeast Philadelphia and create a recreational site. The $1.6 million development, using City of Philadelphia capital dollars, took a virtual wasteland and transformed it into a beautiful park destination complete with athletic fields, a natural wetlands area, fishing pier, picnic sites, recreational path and an incredible riverside vista.  The entrance to the park is at 7979 State Rd.
